In machining, countersinking is performed using a countersink, for example to countersink screws.
Countersinking in machining involves using a countersink - also known as a countersink cutter - to chamfer or enlarge existing holes in the material. As a result, heads of screws or bolts do not protrude above the surface of the material. The screws or bolts are thus countersunk.
